The
Chevrolet ZR2 Bison has been named by the Overland Journal as its first ever
truck of the year. The Overland Journal is a publication that encourages
environmentally responsible, worldwide vehicle supported adventure travel and
expeditions. The editors of the journal said that it considered the Bison to be
“one of the most exceptional overland trucks ever sold in North America’.
The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison beat off five other midsize pickup trucks to be awarded the accolade. The other vehicles in contention were the Ford Ranger, the Honda Ridgeline, the Jeep Gladiator, the Nissan Frontier and the Toyota Tacoma.
All Vehicles up for the Award Were Put Through Many Tough Tests by the Journal Team
For the purposes of evaluation, the editors of the Overland Journal drove each of the trucks under consideration thousands of miles on multiple terrains. Each vehicle was then evaluated for its performance with a number of considerations – including capability, durability, efficiency, payload and reliability.
The
Bison was reviewed by the editor of the journal, Scott Brady. He said in his
review “Our 2019 Overland Truck of the Year (midsize) goes to the Bison. Just a
list of its features makes it the truck we always wanted, only better. It is
available with a small-displacement turbo-diesel, front and rear locking
differentials, a winch-ready steel front bumper, steel rear bumper with 1/4
panel protection, full-length rock sliders, and class-leading suspension. It
checks all the boxes.”
The
Colorado ZR2 Bison was designed as a collaboration project by Chevrolet
alongside American Expedition Vehicles. The chief engineer at Chevrolet
Colorado, Darren Dohne, said “From our very first meeting, Chevrolet and AEV
agreed on a common goal: To build a truck capable of extreme off-road use and
backed by a limited factory warranty. As such, to be named the ultimate
overland vehicle by the ultimate authority in overland travel is a huge honor
for the entire team at Chevrolet and AEV.”
The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison Came to Market with a Number of Impressive Off road Features
There are plenty of advantages to owning a Bison if your travels frequently take you off road. The Bison comes equipped with five skid plates that are designed to help protect the engine oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case and both the front and rear locking differentials. The plates are constructed with durable hot-stamped boron steel.
The front and rear bumpers, both designed by American Expedition Vehicles, are made of stamped steel. The front bumper, in addition, features the provision for the fitting of a winch. The vehicle also boasts cast iron control arms.
